Not another food blog...

So London needs another food blog like a fish (sustainably sourced, lightly pan-fried) needs a bicycle...

...may I humbly add my voice to the clatter of forks, spoons and mouse clicks.

As a print journalist, a member of what some tecchy types now term the dead tree media, I've watched the ascent of the online food world with great interest. There is much misunderstanding on both sides - some journalists consider bloggers to be blaggers (as if any journalist on earth would turn down a free tea), and I suspect some bloggers think of us hacks as hubristic luddites. The truth, as usual, is most likely somewhere inbetween. What I do know is that any fan of great food writing should now look online as well as within the pages of books and magazines - there are few greater pleasures than settling in front of the laptop with a dark chocolate Hob Nob and a mug of Lady Grey to read a new post on Orangette.

If they're honest, most hacks envy the heady freedom of bloggers to write about what they like, when they like. London's food scene is arguably the most dynamic in the world. There are so many exciting things happening here that I hear about, read about, get sent press releases about...and am itching to write about. Hence this blog. It's purely for pleasure and in my spare time, not an attempt to score more free teas, but a way to record some of these experiences. Hope you enjoy it.

PS the blog header pic was taken by the fabulous Tabitha 'Beyonce' Hawkins. She is available for weddings, bar mitzvahs and all your cookbook styling needs...

How utterly brilliant! There doesn't seem to be anyone else out there bridging the chasm between food bloggers and "the dead tree media" - this is exactly the sort of thing I want to read about - a fresh and honest voice. Can't wait to read more! (p.s. stunning photos, those beefeaters are adorable)

Wonderful! Look forward to hearing more from you, particularly given your first culinary reference is to Corrigan (reigning champion of London's restaurant scene, in my view).

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement - still a lot to learn, like what exactly an rss reader is for example! Not quite shaken off the shackles of old media clearly...
